LUFKIN Rods requires a hot‐rolled, special bar quality (SBQ) steel to manufacture Sinker Bars in our Nappanee, Indiana plant. A Sinker Bar is a steel rod of a specified length, normally in a larger diameter than the sucker rod, provided in standard sizes with externally threaded ends to provide weight and stability to the rod string in sucker rod lift. Sinker bars are used to help keep the rod string in tension, therefore elevating buckling and compressive failures. Sucker rod lift is the oldest and most widely used form of a artificial lift in the petroleum and natural gas industry.
